Dr. Paul Clements’ message to the faculty:

The American economy has been working for a few at the top – it must work for the many. We need to end the tidal wave of money in politics that is corrupting our government. We need to build an economy that will work for all Americans in the 21st century. This will take major improvements in access to and quality of education from pre-K through vocational and college. And we need to help graduates climb out from under mountains of debt by refinancing student loans at low rates. We need to, and we can, rebuild American manufacturing, particularly in high tech and clean energy.

We need to revise our tax code, removing loopholes and subsidies, so those at the top pay their fair share, and to raise the resources for 21st century infrastructure and education. We need to raise the minimum wage. And we must ensure sustainability in our natural environment, particularly by moving rapidly to renewable energy to address climate change.

I am asking you to endorse my campaign to represent Michigan’s 6th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Our present Representative’s voting record sets him against all the goals above, but I will lead in promoting them. I have taught national economic development at Western for 19 years and I co-chair our Working Group on Climate Change. My BA is in Social Studies from Harvard, I served in the Peace Corps in Africa, and my Ph.D. is in Public Affairs from Princeton. I have been an active member of our union for 19 years.

Thank you for your consideration.
